Freelance Community Workshop Leaders

Location: The Old School House, Boscombe
Contract type: Freelance

We want to hear from practitioners who have experience of leading inclusive, engaging workshops where creativity is key to engaging the participants. It is important that you are confident working with a wide range of participants who have different skill levels, and who may not have English as their first language. Whilst some participants are accompanied by a support worker or carer, workshop leaders will need to work independently and with our volunteer team to deliver activities that are safe and accessible for all participants.

We are looking for workshop leaders who have a strong community minded approach to delivering workshops and have a friendly, warm and flexible attitude to make all attendees feel welcomed and involved.

Workshop Leaders Training

Whilst we are looking for workshop leaders with experience, we are also keen to support creatives who would like to develop their skills in running community workshops.  As part of our commitment to supporting freelance employment opportunities, we will be offering training workshops for creatives who are interested in joining our workshop leaders’ team. If this is an area of work you would like to develop, we would love to hear from you. Please complete the relevant section of the questionnaire application form if you are interested in training as a workshop leader.

About the Role

The role is particularly suited for practitioners who have a varied creative skills base and have a strong interest in supporting participants to help them develop their confidence and skills. The outcome of the workshops is to bring our communities together to connect, build friendships and improve their health and well-being through shared creative activity. We are therefore looking for workshop leaders who can respond to the needs of different groups and bring a thoughtful, inclusive approach to planning and facilitation. Workshops may involve a range of creative approaches depending on your skills and experience and the interests of the groups.

Workshop Leaders will need to have experience in developing creative ideas, through to the planning and delivery of the workshop.  We are interested in all creative art forms where a stimulating and engaging workshop can be delivered, generally over 2 hours.  We also develop projects with the groups that lead to a collaborative artwork, or exhibition, and experience in co-creating artworks would be beneficial. At present our workshops are for 18+, but experience of working with young people is also relevant, as we often organise workshops alongside our exhibitions programme for families and younger audiences.

In Summary we are looking for creatives who:

  • Have experience in the planning and delivery of creative workshops in a community setting
  • Are community minded, approachable, and encouraging
  • Can create a safe, welcoming, and inclusive environment
  • Have a varied creative skills base
  • Are able to adapt activities for people with different needs and confidence levels
  • Are reliable, organised, and able to work independently
  • Have good communication skills and a thoughtful approach to group facilitation
