Introducing OSC Guest Speaker: Ceri Hand

Meet arts insider Ceri Hand, the very first guest speaker (and what a special one to kick off with!) in our new series of creative career talks for artists.

At the end of last year we invited you all to the launch night of our new artist development network, Open School Creative (OSC), to get your thoughts on how we could support you in your creative career journey. We heard the need for more workshops, more guest speakers, more opportunities for peer mentoring and crits, more spaces to test work in - and are we ever getting on it this year!

This February we launch our brand new series of creative career guidance workshops and talks. Taking place on the first Thursday of every month, these talks will run here at TOSH from 6pm-8pm.

In this first ever OSC event, we welcome arts insider Ceri Hand for two hours on How to Have a Sustainable Creative Career. Unlock secrets as Ceri shares her experience on the five key pillars of success: Create, Communicate, Community, Confidence and Cash. With practical tips and advice, you'll learn how to create your best work, articulate it effectively, build champions and earn money doing what you love.

Who is Ceri Hand?

Ceri Hand is a creative coach, podcaster, public speaker and the founding Director of Ceri Hand, supporting thousands of creatives to make an impact with their work and earn more money doing what they love.

What was Ceri's creative journey?

Prior to establishing her own platform, Ceri was Director of Programmes for Somerset House, responsible for exhibitions and live events, as well as the sitewide learning and skills programme. Successfully contributing to the building of its profile and brand, Ceri helped to shape the reputation of Somerset House as one of the UK’s top 10 most visited arts attractions, with 2.5million visitors annually.

Preceding Somerset House she worked under many roles, including: Associate Director: Institutions and Public Relations at Simon Lee Gallery, London; Associate Consultant, in the Contemporary Art Society, London; Director, of Ceri Hand Gallery, London/Liverpool; Director of Metal, Liverpool; Director of Exhibitions at FACT, Liverpool; Deputy Director of Grizedale Arts, Cumbria and Director of Make, London.

Ceri is now Co-Chair of Castlefield Gallery, Manchester.

"I’ve been a curator, creative leader, and director of galleries and arts institutions.

From publications to festivals to residency programmes, I’ve immersed myself in every nook of the creative world.

This experience has gifted me an intimate understanding of the creative process — the highs and the hurdles.

I learned that brilliant ideas alone are not enough for true fulfilment; we must embrace the process and learn to manage our minds more effectively too...

Motivated by this belief, I underwent my own transformation, becoming a certified life and business coach.

Now, with my guidance, thousands of artists and creative professionals have taken creative risks that led to extraordinary work, attention, accolades, and sales.

You don’t have to walk this path alone — I founded Ceri Hand to help creatives like you transform both your life and your career.

Are you ready?"

But don't just take it from us, find out for yourself the wealth of knowledge Ceri has to offer, and give your arts career a super kickstart in 2024.

Tickets available on a Pay What You Can basis, from £7.50, with limited free 'community' tickets for those unable to pay the fee.
