TOSH Creative Start Up Programme: Meet Graduate Laura Basevi

"The course was brilliant for meeting other small business owners, not only for the networking and social side, but learning from each other too." Reflections from our Creative Start Up Programme grad, Laura Basevi.

Still on the fence? Hear from thriving Bournemouth based fashion designer and Start Up graduate- Laura Basevi.

Who are you and what is your brand?

My name is Laura Basevi, I’m a fashion designer based in Bournemouth. I run a sustainable fashion label that uses only preloved and vintage textiles. Sustainability is fundamental to my brand, all fabrics are hand-picked by me and reinvented from preloved cloth. I love searching for vintage treasures at flea markets and charity shops- they not only add charm and beauty but also tell a story of a previous life. Adding a vintage lace trim to a collar or a delicate pearl button fastening is something that makes my brand unique and each garment a one-of-a-kind.

Why did you do the Start Up Programme?

A friend told me about the Start Up Programme at TOSH, it really was the best decision I made to sign up! I was feeling quite isolated working on my own since moving down from London and finding it hard to meet other like-minded creatives. The course was brilliant for meeting other small business owners, not only for the networking and social side, but learning from each other too.

What did you gain?

I gained so much more focus on where I should be putting my energy within the business, rather than feeling overwhelmed and in a muddle! We covered so many useful topics such as brand identity, marketing, pricing, and how to find new clients. Sometimes you know what you should be doing but having the recap was really helpful and gave me a kick up the bum to get on and do it!
