Wednesday 30th July, 6.30pm-8.30pm, hosted by local artist Sarah Jane Hender!
This session will be at the B.A.D Gallery in Boscombe: 616-622 Christchurch Rd, BH1 4BP. The gallery is in the Sovereign Centre, and is accessible from the high street.
This month we are joined by Sarah Jane Hender, one of the incredible visual artists featured in Boscombe and Poland based exhibitions, You’re Not Alone: Women in Art 2025. The exhibition brings together ten artists and their experiences as women outside mainstream art and education, foregrounding their significant contributions to contemporary art.
Join us for this small group session, sharing your own work, or simply discovering the work of others. Feel empowered with supportive and insightful feedback. Creatives of all ages and stages welcome. Expect an inspiring evening of chat, with a cuppa.
OSC: Show & Tell Nights
Would you love some useful, constructive feedback on your work, offered by other creatives?
Join us at TOSH on a Wednesday evening for our monthly Show & Tell Nights, formed as part of our new artist development programme, Open School Creative (OSC).
Share your creative work, ideas or concepts in one of our four informal sharing slots (15 mins sharing in whatever form suits you!), or simply come along to discover new work and offer your thoughts in a safe, supportive space - alongside those from our rotating artist specialists.
What to share?
You might share a current project, or a past one that you'd like to learn from. You might tell us about your creative journey so far, looking for advice on what to do next. You could show your artwork, songs, songwriting, creative writing, a social media campaign idea, graphic design, interior design, illustration, storyboards, film, photography, fine art, portfolio, website design, social media, your branding and logos, your creative business idea, event / workshop ideas, ceramics, choreography, performance, craft, millinery, jewellery, costume, product design, animation, a commission in progress, creative research work... and more!
What ticket type do I need?
Choose a 'Share Work' ticket if you'd like to have some space to share with us, or an 'Audience' ticket if you'd rather just see what it's all about and offer some thoughts if you'd like to. Our Donation tickets support us to keep providing creative opportunities to the community, and our Community tickets support you when you need it most. We want our sessions to be accessible for all. If you would like a free Community ticket for this event, please drop us an email to contact@toshspace.co.uk for the ticket code.
About the Artist
Sarah Jane Hender's arts career spans almost twenty years, with years between filled with motherhood and home-educating her child. In Sarah's latest work, she has re-explored and expanded her painting and video language - achieving the CSM Cass Art Award.
"The work I produce is currently drawn from my desire to emulate the many complexities of womanhood. I channel a type of essence from images within faces and bodies I seek to capture or by subverting the real figure into one that sits within an unreal space."
Sarah Jane Hender's work often blurs the lines between real narratives, self-experience, and the imaginary space between, utilising the figurative as conduits for playing with the ideas of the overt feminine and masculine aesthetic and how images can be interpreted as new portrayals through paint and figuration. Touching on the harsh realities women can encounter, whilst reflecting on the body image as objectified.
